I am a heavy supporter of social media as a valuable business tool, but only when it is used for the right reasons, and in the right way. Sometimes it’s easy to convince yourself that your reason for using social media for your business is right when it’s actually wrong. So, here it is, in black and white, the 15 worst reasons to use social media for business.

15. Because it’s free to sign up

Musharraf’s political party launched

KARACHI: With self-exiled retired General Pervez Musharraf as its chief, the All-Pakistan Muslim League was launched by his close aides here on Tuesday.

Equating the present situation with that of 1906 when the All-India Muslim League was launched, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, a central leader of the new party, said that as the AIML overcame hurdles on its way to success, “God willing, ours would also become a popular political party and play its role in Pakistan’s progress.”

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club with retired Major-General Rashid Qureshi, another central leader of the party, Mr Saif said the party was against hereditary politics and would carry out its politics in a democratic manner to serve the people. Read more of this post

10 Ways To Improve Your Personality

Contrary to what you may believe, you can improve your personality.

The “personality” is the typical pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaviors that make a person unique.

When we say that someone has a “good personality” we mean that they are likeable, interesting and pleasant to be with.

Everyone wants to be attractive to others. Having a good personality helps – probably even more so than good looks.

While we can improve our looks to only a certain extent, we can work on improving the personality as much as we want.

Here are some ways in which we can accomplish this:

  1. Be a better listener.
  2. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was considered one of the most charming women in the world because she cultivated the skill of being an exceptional listener. She was known for the way she would look a person in the eyes,  hang on their every word, and make them feel important. There is nothing more appealing than having someone listen to you intently making you feel like you’re the only person in the world.

  3. Read more and expand your interests. The more you read and cultivate new interests, the more interesting you are to others. When you meet new people it gives you the opportunity to share what you know and to exchange your views with them. Read more of this post

15 Life Lessons They Don’t Teach You In School

There is the type of education we get in school and there are life lessons we learn along the way. Both are important.

The only problem is that life moves us far along before we figure out what’s going on and the wisdom we hope to have gained is sometimes late in coming.

To spare you some of the hard knocks and trial and error, here are some life lessons to help you along.

  1. As Richard Carlson says, ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’, and most of it is small stuff.
  2. Much of the time we get stressed and worked up over “stuff” that in the grand scheme of things really doesn’t matter. When we allow ourselves get too caught up in it we ruin our perspective and don’t take time to enjoy the moment.

  3. Life can be unpredictable and throw you some curves.
  4. Just say “never” and see what happens! To avoid the jolt when life’s surprises come your way, be prepared by being open-minded and maintain the positive mindset that welcomes the life lessons offered.

  5. The most boring word in any language is “I”.
  6. It’s wonderful to be self-confident and self-sufficient, however, it’s not all about you. There is nothing more monotonous than hearing someone talk about themselves and their accomplishments endlessly. Being self-centered is not the same as having self-confidence.

  7. People are more important than things.
  8. Relationships are more important than any material goods you may acquire on the road to success. Without the love and support of family and friends in life, material goods are not of much use. Setting your values and priorities can help you establish what’s important. Read more of this post

Patience & Tips On How to Develop It

Patience is the ability to tolerate waiting, delay, or frustration without becoming agitated or upset. It’s the ability to be able to control your emotions or impulses and proceed calmly when faced with difficulties. It comes from the Latin word pati which means to suffer, to endure, to bear.

Needless to say, patience does not come easily to most of us and it’s probably harder now to be patient than historically it has ever been.

In today’s world of ‘instant everything’, technological advancements and readily available credit have allowed us to obtain, experience, and consume practically anything we want – almost immediately.

Do we even need to be patient anymore?

Well, if we want to reach our goals, have successful relationships and achieve personal peace, the answer is a resounding yes!

Anything worthwhile and of importance cannot take place right away. It takes time, dedication and effort to achieve; so even in this day and age, patience is a virtue.

How to Stop Anxiety and Panic Attacks With Depression

Those who suffer from anxiety disorders and panic attacks with depression know their bodies and minds do not respond to physical and psychological stress the way most peoples do. They also know that managing their symptoms can be an ongoing struggle. However, it is possible to stop anxiety and depression in its tracks. Making the best use of the following information can provide a strong and positive step toward bringing your anxiety and panic attacks under control while healing your depression.

Things You’ll Need:

  • A commitment to getting your life back
  • An adjusted diet
  • Health food store
  1. Step 1

Talk to family and friends about anxiety and depression

Talk to family and friends about anxiety and depression

My anxiety disorder is NOT my fault. My depression is not my fault. Say it as many times as you need to before it sinks in. As with depression, many people will not understand what you are going through and offer nonsensical and often hurtful advice: “Just calm down”, “It’s all in your head”, “it’s just a little stress, grow up”. Your family loves you but they may not know HOW to love you through this situation. Look people in the eye and tell them, “What I am going through is very real and very serious and it is not my fault. If you are not willing to support me and understand me through this difficult time in my life I’m going to have to ask you not to speak of it again as the only thing you are doing is hurting me and interfering with my recovery.” In the end, what you are doing is letting go of the guilt associated with people who make you feel like your anxiety and depression is self-inflicted. The Sands of Forgiveness

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him.

After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE. Read more of this post

So You Want to Be a Project Manager?

You’ve worked on a project, and you think you’d like to have a try out at doing the project management role. It doesn’t look too hard, or maybe it just looks exciting.

So what does it take to become a project manager? What skills do you need?

From my experience of over 25 years in project and programme management, I always look for the following skills in any project manager I hire.

An innate leader – by innate leader, I mean one appointed by their peers, rather than by management. It’s not necessarily the one with the title “manager.” Look at any team and one person will stand out as being the “ring leader,” I want that sort of leadership, leadership that comes naturally and is innate to that person and situation. Someone who can become an innate leader has a certain level of confidence, and most of the other skills listed below.

Well Organised

By definition, a project manager needs to be well organised. They need to be able to determine what needs to be done, in what order, so as to achieve a desired outcome. They need to be like a juggler keeping many different balls in the air at once, without taking their eyes off any one of them. Read more of this post

What Makes a Successful Project Manager?

Over the past few days, I’ve been writing about some of the characteristics that make a great project manager. I don’t think anyone disagrees that delivering projects on-time, on budget, and on spec are important. I certainly think they are. That being said, I was thumbing through some old notes last night and found these six leadership attributes. I’m not sure where I stumbled across them originally, but they are leadership skills that can take a good project manager and make them great.

As companies turn to project based work to help make and keep their organisations competitive and profitable, the need for skilled project leaders will continue to increase. Regardless of your particular work management methodology or business project management software, do you take time to foster the following skills and attributes?

  • The gift of foresight. I’m not suggesting that membership in the Psychic Friends Network is required, but being able to look down the road and make some reasonable predictions based upon practical assumptions is an important skill.
  • Organisation. I don’t think this needs much explanation. Keeping information, schedules and team members organised is critical. Fortunately, most project managers I know are very organised and detail-oriented people. Read more of this post

Project Managers Need Leadership Skills

Yes, if you are a project manager you really need leadership skills! Today’s project managers must have leadership skills in order to effectively perform their roles in the organisation and stand out from the crowd. Something must make you distinct from the others, especially if you are currently job searching or worried about your job security given the current economy.

While this has certainly always been the case; it is even more important today in an economy where project managers (PMs) are being asked to do more with less, educed budgets for their projects, fewer resources available to work on the projects, and reduced timelines to get the products/services to market, in order to ensure their organisations remain competitive in a global economy.

Many project managers have strong technical skills, but are sometimes lacking in the critical soft skills necessary to be truly effective. Read more of this post
